In a shift to online learning, it’s easy to fall into a trap of mirroring traditional classroom practice. This often takes the form of attempting to replicate contact hours and traditional lectures, tutorials or practicals by offering a series of live (synchronous) online sessions. But it’s important to ask yourself, is a synchronous session necessary? Why? What is the benefit to the student?
